Credit Cards For People With Poor Credit Rating

There are credit cards available to people who have a damaged credit rating as a consequence of previous financial problems. Use the compare tool to see which card companies are sympathetic to people with bad credit rating or low credit score.

Previously turned down?

If you have been turned down for a credit card, you are not alone as more than 1.7m people were turned down for credit cards in 2005.

When you apply for a credit card the issuer will check your credit history by contacting a credit reference agency such as Experian or Equifax. If you have no previous credit history or there is evidence on your credit file that you have failed to repay your debts in the past, your chances of being accepted for a credit card will be greatly reduced. Late payments, missed payments, default notices, County Court Judgments (CCJs) and Repossession Orders will in most cases prevent you from getting one of the market leading credit cards.

Card companies will also take into consideration any debts you have already and compare this against your current monthly income. If they believe you have insufficient funds or are over committed, again they will turn down your application.

Repair credit rating

If you have previously been turned down for a credit card or are having trouble getting a credit card because of previous debt problems, there are some issuers who might offer you the chance to repair and rebuild your credit rating.

If you are accepted for a card, use it wisely, do not over spend and pay the balance in full and on time each month as this will help repair your credit rating.
